"Whirlwind" is a pop dance song that takes the listener through the complexities of memories. Some memories bring back painful experiences, while others are wrapped in love. Memories hold a whirlwind of emotions—sometimes contradictory—but that contrast is part of the beauty of being human.
The moments in life where the ground feels as if it has been pulled out from underneath us forces us to change and start new beginnings. And that's not always a bad thing. Life can be hard, but we are a mosaic of all the lessons, people and experiences we encounter, shaping and molding each of us uniquely. "Rinse and Repeat" reminds us that we are all walking this life for the first time.
"My Ugly" is a narrative-driven song that tells the story of being ghosted by a musician. The chorus reflects the singer’s frustration—not just with him and his vices, but with herself for even caring. As I developed the lyrics, I was reminded of Romans 7, where Paul wrestles with his own contradictions, questioning why he does what he hates instead of what he should do and wants to do. I believe that struggle—of knowing better yet still feeling drawn to something harmful—is a universal human experience, and it’s at the heart of this song.
"Your Ugly" continues the narrative from My Ugly, this time from the musician’s perspective. In his response, he acknowledges his own struggles but makes it clear that she isn’t one of them. Grief, addiction, and personal vices often complicate love stories, and this song explores the weight of those battles.
"I Thought I Had Time" is a collaboration with Mindfellow and was written two weeks after the passing of my father and unexpectedly, moments after we released the song, the vocalist's father passed away. Life brings us crushing, devastating and unexpected changes that we are often unprepared for. Sometimes you have to look hard for it, but there can be beauty from ashes. This song is dedicated to our two remarkable fathers taken from us much too soon.
“Unknown Me” is a perspective all too familiar in modern society with self-critique often harsher than the surface lens we view others. The song acknowledges the internal struggle of hiding flaws with the realization that it is okay to be authentic in our story. Collaborating with Mindfellow, this song brings an introspective commentary in this indie art pop release.
